62-36? TRY 30-3
Savoring Nebraska's 30-3 rout over Colorado, without even seeing it

By Jim D. Berryman

Nebraska 30 Colorado 3.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am in missing the majority of the NU-CU game on November 26. Then again, maybe it's a good thing.

My case of the "Husker Happies" would be even worse.

I was in Montreal from Friday through Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. It was great to visit a city I've never been to. I was there to see the sights, and didn't have time to see the game, even though it was on live in Montreal. I could have had a Husker hotel room watch party in my very own hotel room.

But the city outside the door beckoned. Had the Huskers and Buffs been playing for the Big 12 Championship, or had the Huskers played consistently during the season, I would have stayed put in the hotel room. I could have checked out a Montreal sports bar called Champs, which is a big American football watch place, although mostly NFL.

Even though I predicted a Husker win on the MissingNebraska.com Message Board, I was prepared to hear about another Husker road loss.

Then the game happened.

A crushing Nebraska victory over the league-leading Buffaloes, on the Buffs' very own trashy home field.

Woo Hoo!

Even better, the game was on national television, on a day when if you didn't want to hit the crowded malls, you stayed home, feasted on turkey sandwiches, and watched Nebraska - Colorado. It was an impressive TV showing for Big Red, on a day when a lot of people were watching football.

It is so nice to see the Colorado fans were on their usual good behavior. They were such gems to TV viewers around the country.

My cell phone starting ringing off the hook in Montreal. After I saw the score go to 3-3 in the hotel room, I hear 10-3, then 17-3, then 24-3, then 30-3. I had to keep telling people that my wireless plan's free weekends didn't apply in Canada. I was getting charged 59 cents a minute.

Still it was surreal to be sitting at a brew pub (with no TV) in Montreal hearing the Nebraska score go by. I let out a few "whoops" upon hearing about the Husker thrashing of Colorado. I could just picture it in my head.

Engraving For Drunks
Which brings me to my point. Remember back at the beginning of the Husker freefall, when Colorado stunned Nebraska 62-36 in Boulder? The score was engraved into the memories…and rings…of Colorado fans and players for eternity.

I'm not sure if any of the Colorado fans remember that game. I think we see, judging from fan behavior during the NU-CU game, they may have been too drunk to remember.

Upon punching a few numbers on my calculator, I get the Husker margin-of-victory over Colorado was one higher than the Buffs' margin-of-victory over Nebraska. The 30-3 Husker win gives Nebraska 27, Colorado's 62-36 win over Nebraska gives the Buffs 26.

Take that, CU fans.

Did Nebraska make a huge deal about it?

No, not huge enough. Thus my article on the subject.

Let me know when the "30-3" t-shirts become available.

I'm still smiling about this Big Red big win.

This despite my criticism of Husker coach Bill Callahan.

This despite my stunned reaction to the Kansas loss.

This despite my overall worry about the eventual success of the West Coast Offense.

What a great win at a time when great win was needed.

So, when do the "30-3" t-shirts go to press?
