Gym Cracks By Jim May 19, 2003 SPURS AND CUBS Spur on the Spurs, dreams of the Cubs in the World Series By Jim (Babe) Berryman MissingNebraska.com Western Nebraska It has been some time since I have contributed an article for this column. I have spent some time in California and then several days in central and eastern Nebraska. I did watch several games in the NBA series between San Antonio and Los Angeles. I probably had not watched more than a few minutes of maybe 12 games during the entire NBA season. I've seen more NBA basketball in the last week than during the regular season. I like the San Antonio team. Duncan performed well for the Spurs. He solidified this year's MVP award with his performance in this series. "He (Duncan) is not spectacular" commented a person on the Tony Kornheiser Show this week. Maybe so! But when a player scores 37-points against Shaq and the Lakers, spectacular moves doesn't have to be in one's repertoire. He took it to the Shaq. Even if these 37-points were "garbage baskets" or rebound points or just lucky bounces, he did score 37-points against one of the better NBA teams. The Dallas-San Antonio series should be interesting. -- I have been a Cubs fan since I started following baseball as a youngster. I might add, 2003 may be their year to participate in the World Series. After a hiatus of 58 years from this fall classic, the Cubs are due. There are only a few old-timers like me that were born when the "Cubbies" last played in the World Series. They're due! Wouldn't a Cubs-Kansas City World Series be great! I can dream, can't I?
