It appears some "madness" started this week. Coach Barry Collier's Nebraska team led Missouri 22-4 at one time. That's no typo. The score was Huskers 22, Mizzou Tigers 4. The Huskers stayed in this game, losing by a 70-61 margin. Then UCLA defeated number one ranked Arizona. UCLA is now 9-18. Does Arizona still receive a number one seed? I watched the last few minutes of the UConn and Villanova women's basketball game. Seventy consecutive wins for UConn until this game. What's the record for men's college basketball? UCLA won 88 straight in the 1971-74 years. We need more coaches the caliber of John Wooden. The 1953-57 Oklahoma Sooners won 47 consecutive football games. -- A controversial bill to pay football players has been proposed to the Nebraska legislature. This bill cleared a major legislature hurdle this past week. The bill advanced on a 26-0 vote. There are 49 state senators. The real goal of this bill, supporters say, is to pressure the NCAA to liberalize its rules that limit how much a student can receive in scholarships and aid and earn through outside work. Senator Chambers made clear his intent that the bill never actually take effect, he appeared to win over previously skeptical lawmakers. -- And lastly, I wish I could be in Omaha this weekend, it's St. Patrick's weekend.
