NEBRASKA TRAVEL DOG
Wilton, the dog with mysterious past, early to rise and eager to travel

A family member recently celebrated ten years since he was adopted into our family. Wilton was adopted on December 31, 1993.

Wilton's background is somewhat sketchy. Personnel who helped in the adoption process didn't know his exact age.

His new guardians were told Wilton was probably six-months to a year-old.

The lack of paperwork and exact dates were not important to us as Wilton is a cute Dandie Dimmont Terrier.

I realize most people think their dog is special, but Wilton is really special. He has to be one of the best travelers in the canine world.

He recently completed a 4000-mile journey through Arizona, California, Nevada, and back to Nebraska.

On the last leg of the trip--from Grand Junction, Colorado to Grand Island, Nebraska--he was out of the car for a five-minute period.

Wilton is not a barker or whiner. When he wishes to go outside, he will come and stare at one of his guardians.

His toilet activities have been exceptional. Two-three times when he first became a member of the family, he did urinate in the house. It has been years since this activity has taken place in a house.

He is an early riser. Wilton and I do not miss a morning walk. We leave on this walk, usually by 5:00 a.m. If I linger or procrastinate before starting the walk, Wilton will do through his routine of doing some circles and then heads for the door and waits for me.

When he goes outside, he remains in our unfenced yard.
