Huskers nab Independence Bowl bid, will play Ole Miss Dec. 27

The Nebraska Cornhuskers had reason to smile Sunday.

The Huskers are bowl bound once again. They will play Ole Miss in the MainStay Independence Bowl on December 27 in Shreveport, Louisiana.

At least one streak didn’t come to an end this season. It is the 34th straight appearance by Nebraska in a bowl game, the longest in Division 1-A.

Coming off the worst Husker season in four decades, the 7-6 battle-scarred Big Red will make one final attempt at garnering a winning season against Eli Manning’s Ole Miss Rebels.

But if you don’t have vacation time scheduled between Christmas and New Years, you’d better be filling out your “day off” request sheet at work.

Because after playing for all the marbles in the national championship game on prime time big-league TV last season against Miami, Nebraska’s disappointing season has reduced the Huskers to following Susan Lucci in “All My Children”.

Nebraska and Ole Miss kick it off at 3:30 pm central on Friday afternoon December 27.

The Rebels are 6-6, but one of those victories was against Florida.

Tickets for the Independence Bowl are $25 and are available by calling toll-free 1-888-414-BOWL or logging on to IndependenceBowl.org
