BREAKFAST WITH TIGERS
Nebraska and Auburn tangle in early-start Cotton Bowl

We all may complain a bit about the start time of this season's AT&T Cotton Bowl, but Husker fans are thankful for one thing as we head into a new year.

At least Nebraska is playing on New Year's Day.

It used to be a given that NU would be in a New Year's Day bowl game. The Huskers have made numerous appearances back when New Year's Day was the final word in college football for the season.

Now we have bowl games on what seems like the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 8th of January.

It will be an early kickoff for Husker fans around the country. In the east, 11:30 is a bad enough start time, let alone in Huskerland at 10:30, in snowy Denver at 9:30, and in sunny L.A., at only 8:30 in the morning.

The early start will allow Nebraska to be on all the channels' highlights all day long. Let's hope they're highlights.

And at least the game doesn't kick off after 9 p.m. eastern like some last-of-the-day bowl games. Most people have to work on January 2nd, so this will allow plenty of time to either savor or forget about what transpires in Dallas.

So after one last rub of the sleepy eyes, Husker fans will get down to the business of seeing whether Nebraska is ready to step up and make a statement against a higher-ranked team.

A win over Auburn would be a giant step in setting the course to becoming a top-10 preseason team next season.

Somehow I think there will be a run on Bloody Mary mix at the grocery stores. They say Bloody Marys are great for those "early" tailgate parties. They also say a Bloody Mary is a great hangover remedy.  Fitting for the day after New Year's Eve.

Let's hope the Huskers don't have an Auburn Tiger hangover on January 2nd.

Cotton Bowl weather looks to be sunny to party sunny and cool, but not cold. Kickoff temp in the 40s, rising to the 50s by the end of the game.

Go Big Red!
