BIG RED IS BIG STORY IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL. Controversy from sea to shining sea. By Jim D. Berryman Content Editor The floodgates have opened. The rise of negative comments, cheap shots, and one-liners about Nebraska is gushing through the country like a tiny stream after two feet of rain. The Nebraska Cornhuskers… (for those non-Nebraskans who will obviously see something funny in our team’s nickname, a Cornhusker is a person who husks corn. The corn you eat on your plate. The corn that nourishes you. The corn you snarf down while watching “Harry Potter” at the movies)…, the team that tip-toed backwards into the national championship game with Miami in the Rose Bowl, is going through a lot these days. Not only are they on a tremendous high from Eric Crouch winning the Heisman Trophy and nabbing a spot in the national title game, but they’re also smack-dab in the middle of a rip roarin’ controversy. Numerous critics are sounding off on the outcome of the BCS Poll, but many are taking it a bit further…criticizing the Huskers themselves and taking cheap shots at the fans. I realize it’s a controversial outcome, however, it was a tally that turned out close and it was very unusual, now move on! It’s over. Been there. Done that. I don’t care that Colorado still has a shot at winning the national championship if they cream Oregon. I don’t care that Nebraska got whipped by Colorado. I don’t care that the Buffaloes are all upset and crying to anybody that will listen. I’m just ready for the Rose Bowl. A game that features the BCS#1 vs. BCS#2 teams. Miami and Nebraska.
