CROUCH IS CREAM OF HEISMAN CROP.
Nebraska’s Eric Crouch wins the 2001 Heisman Trophy.

Eric Crouch is the toast of Broadway tonight. Make that the toast of college football. The senior Husker quarterback added “Heisman winner” to his list of many accomplishments and awards. It was the fourth-closest race in Heisman history, but Crouch edged Florida’s Rex Grossman by 62 votes. Miami’s Ken Dorsey came in third and Oregon’s Joey Harrington rounded out the finalists.
Crouch was poised and grateful accepting the award, and thanked the many important people in his life both on and off the field. Nebraska Coach Frank Solich was on hand for the festivities, as was Crouch’s mother. Past Nebraska Heisman winners Johnny Rogers and Mike Rozier sat beside each other at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square.
It was Crouch’s first visit to New York City. And he took the Big Apple by storm. He was quoted in a newspaper story saying that even if he didn’t win the Heisman, he’s just happy he got to come to New York.
Now after winning the Heisman, it has to feel a bit strange to walk out of the hotel in a city you’ve never been to and be mobbed by press and well-wishers. Eric Crouch is Heisman winner! Ain’t it sweet!
Thanks for a great season and for so many grand Husker memories. We realize the memories aren’t done yet.
