TITLE TURNED OVER
Huskers hang tough but fall short as NU turnovers aid OU in 21-7 win

The way the game started for Nebraska against Oklahoma Saturday night was a big indicator of how the game would go for the Huskers for much of the night.

Nebraska's tricks were not going to work against the mighty Sooners.

On the opening kick, Nebraska's Kenny Wilson handed the ball off to Brandon Jackson in a reverse. Jackson was then promptly stuffed by the OU coverage on the 9-yard line.

A play later, Maurice Purify fumbled on Nebraska's own 2 yard-line and before you could blink, the Sooners were up 7-0.

Despite winning the overall statistics battle, the Huskers couldn't make the plays when needed and ended up on the short end of the Big 12 championship game, losing to Oklahoma 21-7 in Kansas City.

Defense and turnovers seemed to be the theme of the night.

Nebraska's 5 turnovers loomed large in the loss. NU quarterback Zac Taylor threw 3 interceptions, and was hurried by the Sooner defense throughout the night.  It was an impressive Oklahoma defensive effort.

Just as impressive was Nebraska's defense, which stuffed OU's rushing game throughout the night. The Blackshirts held the Sooners to around 40 yards rushing.

However, there were enough crucial plays made against the Huskers at just the right time, to give the Sooners the edge. The Huskers couldn't seem to catch a break, despite finding success in its passing game.

The don't call it Sooner magic for nothing.

There were times it seemed as if Nebraska was about to take over the game only to have something happen, like a turnover, squash any hope of a comeback against the Sooners.

Oklahoma managed to put together a 99-yard touchdown drive late in the 3rd quarter to seal the deal.

Still, it was a great scene in chilly Kansas City. It sure was nice to see the Huskers and Sooners on the same field, vying for a conference championship.

Nebraska falls to 9-4 and will play in the Cotton Bowl on January 1. Oklahoma ups its record to 11-2 and will play in the Fiesta Bowl the same day.
