NU'D SOONER BE CHAMPS
Big 8 rivals Nebraska and Oklahoma set for Big 12 title K.C. clash

Even though Nebraska and
Oklahoma are one of college football's most storied rivalries, the
two teams have never faced each other in a Big 12 championship game.
That is until now.
The Huskers and Sooners will tangle for the fist time in the Big 12
conference championship game, in a battle of South vs. North, "No
Place Like Nebraska" vs. "Boomer Sooner".
Kickoff from Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium is just after 7 p.m.
central. The game will be televised nationally on ABC.
Hard to believe the 2 teams' paths have not crossed in the years
since the Big 8, in which Nebraska and Oklahoma were both members,
became the Big 12.
It's about time.
Somehow I think both former Husker coach Tom Osborne and former
Sooner coach Barry Switzer will be there too, both smiling.
No. 8 Oklahoma (10-2, 6-2 Big 12) had a bit of luck in landing in
the title game. A Texas loss to Texas A&M last Friday, coupled with
a nail-biting win over instate rival Oklahoma State on Saturday,
allowed the Sooners to nudge past the Longhorns into the title game,
despite losing to Texas earlier in the season.
No. 19 Nebraska (9-3 (6-2 Big 12) is riding high after a post-
Turkey day stuffing of North rival Colorado.
There is much riding on the big game with Oklahoma. Nebraska's bowl
outlook would most likely include a New Year's Day scenario with a
win over the Sooners.
On the other hand, a 4th loss hurts
much more than the 3rd, especially with a potentially tough bowl
game...and loss number 5...to come.
Still, it should be fun, as both teams seem to be surging, and
perhaps we really do have the best Big 12 teams playing this
Saturday night in Kansas City.
Sorry Texas.
Nebraska clinched the North title even before its 37-14 win over
Colorado last Friday.
The Huskers will be the "visiting" team, even though it won't seem
that way in what looks to be a very chilly Kansas City this Saturday
night.
According to a story on NewsOK.com, 50 to 60 thousand of the fans in
the stands at Arrowhead Stadium will be wearing Husker red.
Nebraska fans have fewer miles to drive and had more time to decide
to go, since clinching the division much earlier than Oklahoma did.
Weather forecasts are calling for temperatures in the 20s at
kickoff.
Much more on the game to come
below, with updated links as we countdown to the showdown.
