Huskers suffer worst home loss since '58 in 38-9 setback to Kansas St.

It wasn’t the fact that Nebraska lost to Kansas State at home Saturday.
It was the way the Huskers went about it. Big Red lost big.
After playing to a 7-7 halftime tie, Kansas State came alive in the 3rd and 4th quarters to scratch out Nebraska’s hope of winning the Big 12 North division. The Wildcats stunned a sellout Memorial Stadium crowd, plowing through the Blackshirts for a 38-9 thumping of the Huskers.
As said above, it wasn’t that Nebraska lost on Saturday. Many expected the Huskers to lose to KSU. As a matter of fact, the Huskers came into the game as underdogs playing at home, despite being rated ahead of Kansas State in the polls and owning a better record.
That all changed Saturday.
Kansas State will now play Missouri at home in Manhattan next Saturday for the Big 12 North title and a potential date with Oklahoma in Kansas City for the Big 12 Championship.
Lately it seems that when Nebraska loses a football game, they really do it up right. Call it a snowball effect. In all of Nebraska’s three losses this season, the Huskers were anything but out of the games. Then the snowball started rolling. And rolling. And rolling.
The Big Red was snowed under by a masterful performance by KSU QB Ell Roberson and a KSU offense that had its way with the Blackshirts over and over again.
Much will be said this week on whether or not Husker head coach Frank Solich will have a job at the end of the season. We hear NU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini had a few choice words for Wildcat coach Bill Snyder after the game. We expect this to be splashed across the media this week.
Not a good thing, even though Snyder kept his starters in while Nebraska’s reserves were on the field in the game’s final moments. Running up the score? Perhaps. But if you’re a Kansas State fan who has suffered through decades of Husker dominance, it must have felt sweet indeed.
The Huskers have a week off to regroup. Then it’s off to Boulder for a game with Colorado on the day after Thanksgiving. The Huskers have a lot to play for, so we certainly hope they don’t roll over and let the Buffalo snowball roll over them. With a win over Colorado and a bowl game win, the Huskers can still have a 10-win season. That’s a big improvement over last season.
So we look to next season for revenge in Manhattan. For now, bring on the Buffs and Go Big Red.
And despite getting throttled by the Wildcats in 2002 and 2003, the question remains: Got 5 Kitties?
I think not.
