SWAIN OUT, ROSE IN.
Lincoln native Jim Rose is new voice of the Huskers starting next season.

In a season where everything may come up roses for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, add another rose to the mix. Pinnacle Sports broadcaster Warren Swain resigned Monday and was replaced by Jim Rose as the lead voice for Husker football radio broadcasts. Swain had been calling Husker football and basketball games for six seasons, and was offered a choice of doing one or the other for next season. He decided neither. Swain will continue to broadcast the rest of the current Husker football season, and will also broadcast this season's Nebraska Men's Basketball games. Then he'll hit the road. He told Pinnacle Sports he wanted to broadcast both sports next season, and was not interested in doing one or the other. The decision shocked Pinnacle Sports. But they quickly named a replacement. That replacement is Rose, a former KLIN radio personality and Pinnacle Sports Team member. He is known for being outspoken and lively on the air.

Swain took over the top job from Kent Pavelka in 1996. The decision was controversial, as many Husker fans who had complained about Pavelka being "over the top" were not necessarily happy with Swain as Pavelka's replacement. Swain is quoted in the Lincoln Journal-Star as saying that he is sure he has another 10 years of play-by-play in him, but will have to move on to find a place to do it.

Rose, 37, is a Lincoln Southeast High School and University of Nebraska graduate. He says he has always dreamed of doing play-by-play for the Huskers. He will leave his position at KMBZ-AM in Kansas City, where he served as sports director and co-hosted an afternoon sports show for one year.
