POTENTIAL CLINCHER
NU seeks victory vs. ranked team, can win North title at Texas A&M

A win on the road this Saturday afternoon at Texas A&M would be a tasty treat for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Big Red would then be free to enjoy the icing on the cake at home against lowly Colorado on the day after Thanksgiving.

Nebraska needs just one victory in its remaining two games to win the Big 12 North title.

But all who cheer for the Red team agree the path to the title would be much sweeter with a title-clinching road win against a ranked team.

That's what the Huskers can accomplish in College Station on Saturday.

But it won't be easy. The legendary "12th Man" Texas A&M crowd will more than likely be fired up into a tizzy.

Nebraska still hasn't proven it can beat a ranked team at all this season, let alone on the road. Texas A&M is a loud, rowdy place when the Aggies have more points than you on the scoreboard.

The Huskers, 7-3 (4-2 Big 12), enter the game unranked in the AP Poll, Number 25 in the USA Today poll.

The Aggies boast an 8-2 (4-2 Big 12) record and are ranked Number 24 in the AP poll, Number 23 in the USA Today poll.

Nebraska will need a very strong start vs. A&M, just like the past two games. But this time, if the Huskers get up, they need to go for the close, something not seen in games at Oklahoma State and at home against Missouri last week.

Strange thing is, even with a loss to Texas A&M, Nebraska can still win the Big 12 North division with a win at home against Colorado on November 24.

If that should happen, can't you just hear the pundits now? They would talk about how two other Big 12 South teams deserve to be playing in the title game more so than the Huskers.

Winning the North title under those circumstances wouldn't be quite as fun as if the Huskers do it this Saturday at A&M.

Let's hope for the best.

The game will be televised regionally by ABC. There are a slew of games on at the same time, so it seems Big 12 states will see the game, but not a lot of other areas in the country. Only 14 percent of the country with get the Huskers and Aggies.

Check your local listings and check with your local Husker watch site to see if they'll carry the game.
