BCS SHAKEUP!
Nebraska is top dog in new poll, Oklahoma edges Miami for #2 spot.
If the college football season ended today, Nebraska would be the national champion. That’s right, Nebraska is the new #1 team in the Bowl Coalition Poll (BCS) released Monday. It isn’t really a surprise that the Huskers landed in the top spot, what is a surprise is who came out number 2. The Oklahoma Sooners, who lost to Nebraska 20-10 in Lincoln on Saturday, dropped to number 2, edging out undefeated Miami. The Hurricanes also happen to be the number 1 team in both the AP and USA Today/ESPN polls. So it’s a BCS shakeup and a little controversy all in one.
One of the contributing factors to the result of the new poll is strength of schedule. According to the BCS, Nebraska’s schedule ranks 8th, the Sooners rank number 9. Miami comes in at 76.
So, as usual, the BCS poll is controversial, and Miami fans once again have reason to complain. However, Hurricane fans must also realize that Nebraska and Oklahoma will most likely play again in the Big 12 Championship game in Dallas on December 1st, and with one team obviously going to lose, Miami is poised to move into the number 2 or 1 spot.
Of course, a lot can happen between now and then, but for now, let’s hear it for the Huskers! We’re number 1! And we control our own destiny.
