HUSKERS WIN! HUSKERS WIN! HUSKERS WIN!
Crouch catches touchdown pass, Husker defense shuts down OU for 20-10 victory over the Sooners.
It doesn’t get much better than this. The Nebraska Cornhuskers shut down the Oklahoma offense in the second half to streak past the Sooners 20-10, ending the Oklahoma 20-game winning streak and putting Nebraska on the fast track for a berth in the national championship game. It was a game Husker fans will not likely soon forget. An epic defensive battle between the Number 1 and 2 teams in the BCS rankings. But, the Huskers came out on top, thanks to a little “Husker magic”, highlighted by a trick play that will live on in the memories of Husker fans everywhere.
Nebraska quarterback Eric Crouch Nebraska broke open in the fourth quarter on a trick play, in which he caught a pass from receiver Mike Stuntz and ran into the end zone on a 63-yard touchdown pass. The play sealed the Husker victory.
The game was not a perfect performance by Eric Crouch and the Huskers, yet they did what was needed to knock off the Sooners. The frenzied sell-out crowd went wild.
Oklahoma quarterback Jason White, who took over as the Sooner starting quarterback just this week, was injured early in the game, so former starting quarterback Nate Hybl took over, but could not overcome an overpowering Blackshirt defense. The Huskers are now (9-0, 5-0). Oklahoma drops to (7-1, 4-1).
More than likely, the two teams will face each other again on December 1st in Dallas in the Big 12 Championship game.
Nebraska travels to Kansas for a night game with the Jayhawks this Saturday. The game will be televised nationally by Fox Sports Net, kickoff is just after 6 p.m.
