After disappointing UT loss, Huskers face gut check at Oklahoma State

You've heard it before. Seen it on plaques at the sign shop at the mall:

"Today is the first day of the rest of your life."

For the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the upcoming game at Oklahoma State this Saturday is the first step of the rest of the season.

A season that could easily land Big Red in the Big 12 Championship game in Kansas City in December, mostly likely against Texas.

But it could also be a season tough to get through. A season that will see clashes on the road and at home against a ranked, tough Mizzou team and a trip to College Station to tangle with the ranked Aggies, the same team that beat ranked Mizzou a couple weeks ago.

After a disappointing home loss to Texas last week, it will be interesting to see how the Huskers respond on the road in Stillwater. Nebraska could dominate, but you get the feeling the Cowboys will be stubborn at home.

Still, the team and Husker fans in general seem more at ease at this time in the season compared to the past couple years.

After the comeback against Texas last week, most Husker fans are more confident in this NU team than in previous seasons, so hopefully a letup is something Big Red fans won't see in Stillwater this Saturday.

Even though Oklahoma State doesn't exactly strike fear in all that hear the name, as we know, in college football, anything can happen to any team on any given week.

Let's just hope this ain't Nebraska's week.

The No. 20 Huskers are 6-2 (3-1 Big 12) and technically tied with Missouri for the lead in the Big 12 North. Oklahoma State is 4-3 (1-2), that's good for last place in the Big 12 South.

Even so, the Cowboys will have a fired up team and home crowd, knowing they have to get an upset somewhere in the rest of their tough schedule to even have a chance of making it to a bowl game at the end of the season.

A win in Stillwater will have the Huskers sitting pretty when the Tigers coming roaring into Lincoln a week from this Saturday.

Kickoff for the game is set for just after 2:30 p.m. Central.

It will be regionally televised on ABC.  Click here for Nebraska-Oklahoma St ABC Coverage Map
