'CLONES GET GOOSED
Despite scoreless 2nd half, Huskers jump out early and blank ISU 28-0

Even though Iowa State and Nebraska played to a scoreless tie in the second half, the Nebraska Cornhuskers know what to do when opportunity knocks.

The Blackshirts answer the door, and then some.

Nebraska jumped out to an early 21-0 lead in the first quarter and stumbled through the second half in a 28-0 shutout win.

Nebraska improves to 7-1, 3-1. Iowa State drops to 2-6, 0-4.

NU backup QB Joe Dailey saw extensive playing time, taking snaps in all of the second half. Husker QB Jammal Lord was spotted on television coverage working out on a stationary bicycle. Hey, the guy had to do something, right?

Had Jammal Lord been in the game, the Huskers would have most likely scored a lot more points. Lord’s superior running and strength is obvious when you see Joe Dailey in action.

A positive first half for NU with blocked kicks and big plays. It was Nebraska football of old. Then the game just kind of sputtered along.

The Huskers suffered offensive frustration in the second half under Dailey, who struggled at times to make run/pitch decisions. There were some encouraging signs, and it was good to see Dailey taking snaps and taking hits.

Realizing Lord will see most of the action in Austin, the win against Iowa State is a great victory. Nebraska avenged another loss from last season and equaled the total number of victories of the ‘02 campaign.

All in all, the Huskers cashed in when opportunity presented itself. Once again, a powerful Blackshirts defense was the story of the game.

However, penalties and turnovers, as in the Iowa St. game, will not go over well against Texas in Austin next Saturday. The Huskers must step up on offense. If the Huskers can limit mistakes and turnovers, they have as good a shot as any team to go into Austin and hook the ‘Horns. Problem is, does Texas still have NU’s number? Seems they’ve had it plenty over the past few years.

All of the questions will be answered on Saturday in Austin.

Get ready Husker fans. My “big game” radar is full of orangish-red.
