STILLWATER STUMBLE
OSU drought vs. Huskers is over in 24-21 win, Nebraska drops to 5-3

This just isn’t our year.
The Nebraska Cornhuskers, a team that has made news this season in so many ways, continues to add more stories to the football history books.
It was back in 1961 when the Oklahoma State Cowboys last defeated Big Red. But now, on October 19, 2002, the Huskers’ incredible streak is over.
For the first time in decades, the Huskers are 5-3 and 1-2 in the Big 12 after at 24-21 OSU victory over NU. Unless the Huskers get a lot of help from Kansas St. and Iowa St., the chances of a Big 12 North title are fading fast.
The Nebraska defense simply could not stop the Cowboys when needed. It was a great game, just not the kind of great game Husker fans needed about now. Oklahoma St. was able to hang on for the upset win, despite a brilliant fourth-quarter NU touchdown drive that turned out to be too little too late.
The scene in Stillwater was painful to watch. At the same time, if you’re a Cowboy fan it is going to be a great night. Toward the end of the game it was almost as if the Cowboy faithful were stunned, as they were nearly silent. The big and bad Huskers had finally gone down in Stillwater.
Many will wonder if off-field distractions added to the Husker problems on Saturday against the Cowboys. Lord and Thunder and bad press galore.
Nebraska will face another week of questions, criticism and Sunday-morning quarterbacking. Craig Bohl will not be answering his phone. And perhaps the Husker nation will come to the realization that the “down” season we always wondered could happen is happening. It’s gut-check time for Husker fans.
It’s also gut-check time for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Another absolute must-win situation for Big Red on Saturday, October 26 at Texas A&M. The game will be nationally televised on TBS. Kickoff is 6 PM Central.
Stats and more to come as they become available.
