Nebraska nabs 800th all-time win, downs Kansas State 21-3

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are in the driver's seat to win the Big 12 North championship.

Now there's something Husker fans haven't been able to say in quite some time.

And speaking of quite some time, it's been quite some time since the Huskers won a game in Manhattan, Kansas...10 years to be exact...but Big Red did just that Saturday night 21-3 over bitter rival Kansas State.

NU's defense was able to shut down K-State's rush. The Huskers played well, didn't make all that many mistakes, and once again offered a balanced, methodical attack in cruising to the fairly easy win.

Much-ballyhooed K-State quarterback Josh Freeman, who left Nebraska in December to become a Wildcat, was sacked 4 times by the Blackshirts. Kansas State managed only 22 yards of rushing offense.

NU quarterback Zac Taylor went 12 for 21 for 149 yards and a touchdown. To be fair, Taylor was also sacked 4 times by the Wildcat defense.

Not only was it Nebraska's fourth-straight win, and second-straight road win, but it was also the 800th all-time victory for the Cornhuskers.

That's an accomplishment only a few teams can boast about. Only three other teams are members of the elite 800-win club. Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas, and now Nebraska.

Cornhuskers...start your boasting.

With the win, Nebraska improves to 6-1 (3-0 Big 12). Add in the fact that previously unbeaten Missouri lost to Texas A&M Saturday, and things are looking mighty fine for Big Red in terms of getting to the conference championship game in early December.

Of course that's a long way off.  There are still many tough games to come, including a road game against the same Texas A&M team that handed No. 19 Missouri its first loss of the season. But the goal is attainable now.

Nebraska's likely opponent in said championship game is on the Husker menu next, as the Longhorns of Texas come to Lincoln this Saturday for a Big 12 North-South showdown of epic proportions.

Much more on that big game to come.

But for now, let's savor number 800!  Nice win Huskers. The 'Cats have been sacked!

Go Big Red!
