Speechless! Cowboys crush  Huskers 45-14

October 14, 2007
By Jim D. Berryman

Never. Never. Never.

Never in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine a 3-3 team would come into Lincoln and lead Nebraska 38-0 at halftime.

Never.

But it happened. Oklahoma State went on to win over the reeling Huskers 45-14.

The only thing Husker fans have to be thankful for is that the game was not nationally televised. It was only available through pay per view.

Boy do I feel sorry for those who shelled out nearly 30 bucks for that.

Oklahoma State had its way with Nebraska in shocking fashion on Saturday. Running. Passing. Whatever they wanted.

Nebraska never got out of the gates.

It was the worst home loss for Nebraska since 1958, and it came with former Husker coach Tom Osborne and the 1997 national championship team looking on from the sidelines.

Most of my fellow Connecticut Huskers looking on in disbelief at Yogi's Bar, the Connecticut watch site, were wishing the former players and coach would suit up and hit the field themselves.

It couldn't have been any uglier.

The Huskers drop to 4-3 (1-2). Oklahoma State improves to 4-3 (2-1).

One more positive note: Nebraska won the second half 14-7. Perhaps the Cowboys were just as stunned at what was transpiring before their eyes.

Nebraska has a lot of soul searching to do. Never did I think that when I wrote my Husker-positive preview of the game a few days ago, that something like this would happen.

It's as if the Huskers gave up. Fans gave up too, exiting the stands in droves at halftime with Nebraska down 38-0.

Predictions of changes to the coaching staff now seem a reality. Despite signing a cushy multi-year contract earlier this season, Bill Callahan's days in the Cornhusker State seem numbered.

Next up for Nebraska is Texas A&M in Lincoln.
