CORN CREAMS 'CLONES
Blackshirts awaken, Huskers balanced in 28-14 road win over ISU

Nebraska found a home on the road Saturday night in Ames.
The Cornhuskers' defense was much improved over the previous week's
showing against Kansas, and NU's offense was balanced, in a 28-14
road win over Iowa State.
Nebraska improves to 5-1 (2-0 Big 12). Iowa State drops to 3-3
(0-2 Big 12).
Even though there were some questionable calls from the officials,
one of which should have been a Cyclone touchdown but was called out
of bounds, it was obvious to fans both in the stands and watching
the regional telecast that the Huskers were the better team.
Nebraska rushed for 277 yards. Husker quarterback Zac Taylor was 17
of 21 for 131 yards and a touchdown in the win.
Two Huskers, Brandon Jackson and Cody Glenn, rushed for over 100
yards.
The Cyclones had under 200 yards of total offense late in the game,
then made some plays and a touchdown to make the stats and the score
appear closer than they actually were.
It was an impressive showing for the Huskers after being fairly
unimpressive at home a week earlier. Nebraska played with confidence
on the road, something Big Red fans haven't seen in awhile.
In order to win the Big 12 North championship, road wins are at the
top of the must-do list and the Huskers did just that.
Nebraska is now able to check off Iowa State, but many more checks
in the season remain, including another road game this Saturday in
Manhattan against Kansas State.
NU-ISU New Haven Watch Party A Blast
Since the game was not broadcast on ABC on the east coast, I
went to TK's American Cafe in New Haven, Connecticut for the
Connecticut Yankees for Nebraska Watch Party.
It was an overflow crowd in red. At least 50 or so Husker fans
were in attendance and it was a loud, lively bunch.
There were a lot of new faces, and many familiar ones too. Since
New Haven is home to Yale University, there were at least 8 to 10
Nebraska Yale students cheering on Big Red.
It just goes to show that even Nebraska Ivy Leaguers can't seem to
shake what it means to grow up in Nebraska.
And hats off to TK's for some of the best tasting buffalo wings
I've had in a long time. They're not quite as good as the old
Watering Hole in downtown Lincoln, but close.
And of course, Nebraska fans didn't have to worry about
competing for TVs since the New York Yankees were eliminated from
the playoffs earlier in the day.
A group of New York Mets fans were gathered in the front of the bar
and were celebrating their division title along with those of us in
Husker red. There was one lone Iowa State fan there, a Yale student,
who left early when the game was in hand for the Huskers.
So it was a great night all around. Let's do it again this
Saturday against those purple kitties!
GO BIG RED!
