Huskers get stuffed by Mizzou
October 7, 2007
By Jim D. Berryman
Not a good night to be a Husker or a Husker fan.
Again.
It should have been an indication to find other plans
Saturday night, when Nebraska was already down 14-0 to
Missouri when ESPN coverage of the game began.
ESPN's coverage of the Virginia Tech - Clemson game wasn't
over yet, and fans tuning into the big showdown between the
Huskers and Mizzou were left to watch the tiny scoreboard on
the top of the screen light up with Tiger touchdowns.
Once NU-MU coverage began, it never stopped lighting up.
For the Tigers that is.
Nebraska didn't light the scoreboard once, held without a
touchdown for the first time since 2004.
Two field goals is all the Huskers managed to put up.
Final score: Missouri 41 Nebraska 6.
I haven't been one to jump on the "Nebraska football as we
know it is gone for good" bandwagon, but that bandwagon is
circling in my neighborhood and I'm about to jump on.
Missouri outplayed Nebraska in every facet of the game. It's
not so much that the Huskers lost to Mizzou, after all the
Tigers were favored to win.
It's the way Nebraska seems to lose blowout games on a
regular basis these days. Missouri was clearly the better
team, clearly better coached, and clearly will be
challenging for the Big 12 North title in a few weeks.
Nebraska will be lucky to continue its streak of consecutive
sell outs at Memorial Stadium this weekend against Oklahoma
State, as Husker nation is not only restless, many are
throwing in the towel.
There's still a chance to turn things around and come back
big, if somehow the Huskers can get things together. After
all, the Big 12 North seems to be up for grabs.
But Nebraska hasn't shown it has the spunk to do it.
At this time, it appears it will be Kansas, Missouri,
Colorado or Kansas State that will be doing the grabbing.
