FIND HOME ON ROAD
Tough stretch of schedule kicks in; Huskers seek road victory in
Ames

The Nebraska Cornhuskers hope to find a comfort zone away from home
this Saturday night.
The road hasn't been a friendly place for Nebraska lately. A victory
in Ames against Iowa State would go a long way to keeping the
Huskers' Big 12 North title chances alive and kicking.
When Kansas went up on Nebraska in the 4th quarter of their overtime
game last Saturday in Lincoln, that goal didn't seem too likely. A
loss to Kansas at home in the Big 12 opener would have been nearly
disastrous.
But it didn't happen. Nebraska prevailed in a thriller. That allows
the Huskers to continue through the season, play a better game
against the Cyclones than they did against the Jayhawks, and
continue on their winning ways.
Just in time for a tough stretch of schedule.
Only home once in October, on the 21st against Texas, the Huskers
are road-warriors this month, with games in Ames Saturday, Manhattan
the 14th against Kansas State, then on the road to Stillwater
against the Oklahoma State on the 28th.
Come out of October with all victories, and things will be looking
real good for Big Red.
Of course, if Nebraska wants to accomplish that, the Huskers must
step up on defense, starting with Iowa State this Saturday.
Kansas had its way with the Husker Blackshirts
in quarters 2 through 4 last Saturday, lighting up the scoreboard's
yardage stat fast and furious.
And that was in front of the red-clad hometown friendly crowd at Memorial
Stadium. If things get out of hand in Ames, it could be a
not-so-wonderful night for Nebraska. It's been that way lately, as the Huskers haven't won in Ames since 2000.
Nebraska (4-1, 1-0) comes into the game rated number 22 in both
major polls. Iowa State (3-2, 0-1) would like to jumpstart its
season after disappointing losses to No. 16 Iowa and No. 7 Texas.
The Cyclones escaped with a 28-27 win over Northern Iowa last
weekend.
The Nebraska - Iowa State game kicks off at about 7:10 p.m. central.
It will be televised
regionally by ABC.
Most people in the middle of the country, like in Nebraska and Iowa,
will get the game. Those on the west and east coasts, and in the
southeastern U.S., probably will not. Check
your local listings.
