BIG 12, BIG HOPES
Huskers seek continued improvement in conference home opener vs Kansas

The Nebraska Cornhuskers get into the Big 12 swing this Saturday with a nighttime showdown against the Kansas Jayhawks in Lincoln. Kickoff is 6:10 p.m. central. The game will be televised on pay-per-view.

After a 24-17 road win at Pittsburgh two weeks ago, Nebraska hopes to keep things swinging as it heads into the Big 12 schedule. The Huskers, who were idle last week, are 2-1 coming into the game, Kansas is 2-2. The Jayhawks have already played one Big 12 game, which they lost in heartbreaking fashion 31-30 to Texas Tech last Saturday in Lawrence.

Kansas is not a Big 12 power, but could be a formidable opponent for Nebraska, depending on how the ball bounces. The Jayhawks have victories against Tulsa (21-3) and Toledo (63-14). KU's losses came on the road at Northwestern (17-20) and at home vs. Texas Tech last week.

A few more Jayhawk points here and there and Kansas would be undefeated.

Still, Nebraska seems to be getting more comfortable in its own skin. Even though there are still numerous areas where improvements are needed, there have been plenty of "glimmers" of what is to come in future years in Huskerland. And the glimmers are good.

Husker quarterback Joe Dailey had a much better game against Pitt, eliminating all but one turnover in the game. That compared to numerous turnovers he had a hand in during the Huskers' first two outings vs. Western Illinois and Southern Miss.

If NU turnovers stay low and the Husker defense continues to perform in an impressive manner as they have been, Nebraska should beat Kansas pretty good at home. Notice the "if" factor in play here.

The Huskers have a 35-game winning streak on the line against Kansas, a team Big Red has dominated over the decades.

The game will be televised on Fox Pay-Per-View. Check with your local cable or Satellite Company to see if the game is available in your area.

If you live outside Nebraska, it may be a good idea to call your game watch location to make sure they'll have the game. As was the case for Nebraska's first game of the season, the pay-per-view fee is high for bar and restaurant owners, so not all choose to or can afford to show the game. Call ahead to confirm.

Rock the Jayhawks. Go Big Red!
