TROJANS TOO MUCH
USC snuffs out Huskers' Hollywood hopes, downs NU 28-10

Reality. Check.
After all the pre-game hype and hopes, reality set in in a major
way Saturday night at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
USC showed why it is the number 2 and 4 team in the country, with an
impressive defensive and offensive performance, in a 28-10
win over number 19 Nebraska.
The Huskers just couldn't get it going offensively, mostly because
of a punishing Trojan defense that dominated the game. The
most the Huskers could hope for was to keep the game from getting
out of hand. Add a few more minutes to the scoreboard, and it would
have.
Despite taking a 3-0 lead in the 1st quarter, those same three
points were all the Huskers could manage to put up until early in
the 4th quarter. The lone Husker touchdown offered a glimmer of hope
for Husker fans, only to have those hopes dashed by a Trojan
touchdown on its next possession.
Still, Nebraska has come a long way from the previous 2 seasons.
There aren't many teams around the nation that could have gone into
the Coliseum Saturday night and come away with a victory.
The Huskers drop to 2-1. USC improves to 2-0.
Nebraska's season is by no means over. There are great things to
look forward to, including a huge match up with Texas in Lincoln on
October 21st.
So we toast the Trojans in 2006! Because things could be
very different when USC visits Lincoln in 2007. For now, we offer up
the standard "we'll get you next year!"
Watch Party Notes
I must admit that I was at a wedding reception
during the game, and watched the game on the Inn's bar TV. However,
the bar was right next to the dance floor, and I watched most of the
game with no sound, between dances with the bride and others.
Hats off to the Inn's bartenders, who put the game on despite
requests from two older gentlemen who wanted to watch the
Yankees-Red Sox game.
Also, one of the bartenders, a kid in his 20s, said his
grandfather's brother played for Nebraska back in the 1960s! Cool!
I was able to make it home by the late 4th quarter, and heard
about Nebraska's touchdown over the phone from my dad, who was
watching the game back in Grand Island.
