Nebraska-USC:
In search of something special

Top-ranked
USC visits No. 14 Nebraska Saturday night. This
Husker season is getting fun real quick.
At the same time, the NU-USC game is one of those games that can get
true-blue Husker fans in trouble.
Get all cocky about the Huskers after a cakewalk against
Nevada, then witness a less-than-stellar performance against
Wake Forest, only to leave fearing the letters "U", "S" and
"C".
Despite all that, Husker fans are
searching for something special. A game for the memory
books.
This has the potential to be that game. An upset of
the number 1 team on your home field in front of a
prime-time truly national
TV audience is about as special as it comes.
So even though
the Huskers are underdogs, there is that "Husker Hope" in
every Husker fan I know, something deep-seeded in every
Nebraska native. It's what keeps the Big Red fire burning.
Yep. NU can beat USC.
Husker fans have been waiting for a chance to have such a
victory. It's been awhile since we saw much of a Husker
swagger or confidence going into each game. Over
the past couple years, Big Red fans had high hopes dashed
again and again.
The national pundits are still fairly quiet about Nebraska.
I doubt any or many of them are picking a Husker upset over
the Trojans.
Noticeable during the Nebraska-Wake Forest game was that
overall feeling Nebraska was about ready to break for
something big, yet nothing really materialized.
Perhaps it will materialize this Saturday night, under the
lights in Lincoln.
A frenzied Husker crowd and a few breaks that bounce the
Husker way, may be all that's needed to return Nebraska into
the thick of Top 10 college football.
