ON THE HUSKER MENU: TROY STATE TROJANS
Saturday’s game with Trojans: A trouncing or tricky?

Call it the Husker sneeze factor. If you say “Troy State” real fast, someone could mistake it for a sneeze. Their answer may be “Bless you”.

But the Troy State Trojans, who ride into Lincoln for a Saturday game at Nebraska, aren’t anything the Huskers can afford to sneeze at.

Last year was Troy State’s first year in Division 1-A college football. They finished 7-4. They played at Nebraska and Miami. Not a bad debut at all, considering what happened to the Connecticut Huskies during their Division 1-A debut. Not a pretty sight.

The Huskers are focusing on the Trojans, who bring a young and talented team to Memorial Stadium for another evening into night game. Kickoff is 6 p.m. central Saturday 08-31-02.

So, who is this Troy State? Even though they were at Nebraska last year, a game the Huskers won 42-14, we’re still not familiar. Is that Troy, New York? Nope. A bit further south, y’all.

Troy State is located in Troy, Alabama. Not exactly a weak football state. They’ve seen good football up close and personal in Alabama and Auburn. They impressed the Husker team and the Husker faithful in their performance in Lincoln a year ago.

Troy, Alabama is about half way between Montgomery and Dothan in the southeastern part of the state. The town is only about 11,000 people. So, Memorial Stadium is a big deal to the Trojans. If they could happen to pull off an upset in these hallowed grounds it would be the memory of a lifetime.

That’s what the young Huskers are up against. After a fairly positive showing against Arizona State…especially on special teams and defense… the Huskers know that Troy State means business.

At the same time, Nebraska tends to wear down opponents. They always have. Consistency is a good thing at NU. You saw it happen again against Arizona State in the home opener. Arizona State had had enough. In the Troy State-Nebraska game, advantage: Huskers.

The game will be broadcast over the internet through Huskers.com, Fox Sports.com by Lycos and Real One Superpass. Full Details

There are fees charged for the different packages available. So, if you have a fast connection to the internet, you can check in on the Huskers and check your email at the same time.

Which leads me to wonder. Will Nebraska establishments somehow rig up the internet to their big screen tvs? I bet they will. In Nebraska, if there are pictures, video, audio, or even a courtroom artist’s rendering of a Husker game, when you show these images and play these sounds in a bar, people will come. And they’re all wearing red.

Against the Trojans, the Huskers look to expand on good things and work on not-so-good things from the ASU game last Saturday.
