Not the usual set of circumstances as the Nebraska football team heads into the annual Red-White game in Lincoln Saturday (04-17-04).
For one, the only frank to be found will be at concession stands or blasted out of that famous hot dog blaster.
Coach Bill Callahan, the other famous Frank’s replacement, will debut a new-look Nebraska football team in the Lincoln rite of spring. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
You can listen to the game at huskers.com.
Sorry, no national television coverage just yet, so if you’re not in Nebraska, you’ll have to follow along online.
Of course, that will change in due time. The Huskers will be an attractive TV team once again this season. There is a nationwide curiosity factor about the former Oakland Raiders coach who decided to come into college football tradition-rich Nebraska.
In addition, win or lose, the Huskers usually draw a large television audience. Living far away from Nebraska has let me in on the fact that nationwide, just as many people love to see the Big Red go down as enjoy watching the Huskers chalk up another victory.
On Saturday, 50,000 to 60,000 people are expected at the stadium. Interest in the Huskers is as high as ever, despite a large percentage of Husker fans still with a bit of a bad taste in their mouths from AD Steve Pederson’s handling of the firing and hiring process.
The weather looks great for the game. Partly sunny with temperatures in the upper 70s climbing to the mid 80s by the end of the game.
Fans attending the game would be wise to lather up with sunscreen at this early time in the sunning season. If not, you just may leave with a face that exactly matches your Husker-red T-shirt.
