HUSKERS FALL SHORT
Nebraska wins stats, Auburn wins Cotton Bowl 17-14

Call it a defensive battle. Call it a game that started way too
early. Call it a beautiful blue sky day in Dallas. Call it kind of
an ugly game.
The one thing you can't call it is a Husker victory.
Nebraska fell short in its bid to upset a top-10 ranked team in the
Cotton Bowl on New Year's Day.
Final score: Auburn 17 Nebraska 14.
Despite winning the stats battle, the Huskers were not able to
capitalize on a late-game Auburn turnover that would have at least
given NU a chance at tying the game.
It wasn't to be.
Auburn's stingy defense won in the end. Nebraska's dream of winning
the Cotton Bowl fell incomplete, just like Husker QB Zac Taylor's
final Hail Mary pass as a Nebraska Cornhusker.
Even so, the Husker Blackshirts had a good day, holding high-powered
Auburn to just 178 yards of total offense. In addition, Nebraska
basically gave the Tigers their 14 points off their own mistakes.
Without these mistakes, coupled with a more polished NU offensive
performance, and we all know who would have won the game.
Nebraska finishes the season at 9-5. Auburn's final record is 11-2.
